Effective date: 1 June 2025 · Safety Nigeria
Safety Nigeria is a free, non-commercial emergency coordination platform operated as a community charity project, accessible at safetynigeria.com. We are not a registered data processor for profit. This policy explains how we handle your personal data in compliance with the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA 2023).
The sole purpose of this platform is emergency coordination: enabling community members and verified coordinators to mobilise help quickly when a kidnapping, crime, or disaster occurs nearby. We do not sell data, show advertisements, or share data with third parties except where required by Nigerian law.
We process your data on the basis of your freely given, specific, and informed consent (NDPA 2023, s. 25). For each category of sensitive data — phone number, location discoverability — we obtain a separate consent with an explicit purpose statement. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting your account.
Your data is retained for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, all personal data is permanently deleted including your phone number, location records, emergency reports, and account information. Audit log entries that reference you are anonymised (your ID is replaced with a tombstone marker) rather than deleted, so coordination accountability records remain intact.
To exercise any of these rights, delete your account from the Profile screen or contact us at the address below.
Location address fields are encrypted with AES-256-GCM before being stored in the database. The encryption key is never stored alongside the data. All connections use TLS in transit. Access to the coordinator search feature requires a verified Coordinator role assigned by a platform administrator, and every search is logged.
